District 1 – West Palm Beach

Welcome to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office District 1 website.  I would like to take the opportunity to introduce myself as the District 1 Commander.  My name is Captain Tom Gendreau and it is an honor and privilege to serve the constituents within the unincorporated geographical area of West Palm Beach.

I was born and raised in Massachusetts and moved to Florida in 1991. My Law Enforcement career started when I was hired as a Reserve Police Officer by the Town of Lake Park in 1992 and started full-time in 1993.  I served the citizens of Lake Park as a patrol Sergeant until 2001, when the Lake Park Police Department merged police services with The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.

During my career at PBSO, I have worked in many areas of law enforcement including Narcotics, Criminal Investigations, and Internal Affairs, before being promoted to Lieutenant and assigned as the District Commander of Lake Park in 2016.  I was subsequently promoted to Captain in 2019, continuing my assignment as the District Commander of Lake Park until February 2025.

I am a graduate of the University of Louisville’s Southern Police Institute’s Command Officer’s Development Course, earned my Associates Degree in Criminal Justice from Middlesex Community College, my Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration from Barry University and my Masters in Criminal Justice from California Coast University.
